Port Engineering

The development of Dublin Port is inextricably linked to the development of Dublin City with the Port Authorities playing an essential role in the eastward expansion of the city. The work of the Port Engineers has left a collection of over 30,000 drawings, currently preserved by the Dublin Port Archive. The drawings show plans for a wide range of subjects, mainly quay walls works, channel and river embankment and straightening, hydrographic surveys, bridges, lighthouses, shipbuilding and electrification of port areas.
