Historical Maps

The successive port authorities acquired and produced a wide range of maps. Some of these were for strictly practical purposes but others seem to have been acquired for their own sake as minor works of art. These maps and charts form an illustrated history of the earlier growth of Dublin Port and also show the development of new techniques and styles in cartography marked by increasingly strict standards of accuracy, detail and complexity..
