Help us preserve the stories of Dublin Port and the people, communities and organisations connected with it.

The Dublin Port Archive welcomes offers of original material documenting the history and development of Dublin Port, its operations, infrastructure, workforce and maritime community.

What we collect

We are particularly interested in:

• Photographs, negatives, slides and albums
• Letters, diaries, notebooks and personal papers
• Port, shipping, engineering and business records
• Maps, plans and technical drawings
• Films, sound recordings and digital material
• Posters, programmes, publications and ephemera
• Records of people, vessels, companies and organisations connected with Dublin Port
• Objects with a significant and documented connection to the Port

We are interested not only in the history of Dublin Port Company and its predecessor bodies, but also in the experiences of those who worked in and around the Port and the communities connected with it.

Offering material to the Archive

If you have material that may be suitable for the Dublin Port Archive, please complete the short form below.

You do not need to prepare a detailed inventory. A brief description, the material’s connection with Dublin Port and, where possible, a few sample photographs will help us assess your offer.

Please do not post, deliver or leave original material with Dublin Port Company unless this has been arranged with a member of the Archive team.

What happens next?

The Archive team will review the information provided and may contact you to request further details or arrange an assessment.

Each offer is considered according to its relevance, provenance, condition and the resources required for its long-term care. The Archive may accept all or part of an offer, decline it or suggest another repository that may be more appropriate.

Submitting the form does not mean that the material has been accepted and does not transfer ownership or copyright.

If the material is accepted, the donation and any associated rights will be recorded through a separate agreement before it is added to the permanent collection.

Access and preservation

Material accepted into the Dublin Port Archive is preserved as part of the historical record of Dublin Port. It may be catalogued and made available for research, education, exhibitions, publications and digital access, subject to applicable legal, privacy, copyright, conservation and access requirements.

Acceptance does not mean that material will be immediately catalogued, digitised, exhibited or made available online.
